Helpful answers for happy strides

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions before you stride? You’re in the right place. From choosing the right leash system to sizing, shipping, returns, and care, here are the answers to help you move confidently with your dog.

Choosing the Right u.Do: System

How do I know which u.Do: leash system is right for me?

Start with how you and your dog move together. PowerStride™ is built for running and training-focused movement. FullStride™ gives your dog more forward and trailing distance while still keeping you connected. SureStride™ offers steady control with hands-free flexibility, and FreeStride™ Gear is a more affordable, versatile option for everyday adventures.

What’s the difference between PowerStride™ and FullStride™?

PowerStride™ keeps your dog closer and more aligned with your stride, which is helpful for running, training, and controlled movement. FullStride™ allows more natural forward and trailing movement, making it a better fit for dogs who need a little more room while still staying connected to you.

What is a top-mount leash versus a side-mount leash?

A top-mount leash connects from above your dog, typically to a top-mount harness. A side-mount leash connects from the side and is designed to help keep your dog positioned beside you. The right choice depends on your dog’s training, movement style, and how much alignment you want during walks or runs.

Can I mix and match leash, harness, and collar components?

Yes, but we recommend building within the same system when possible. PowerStride™ components are designed to work together, while FullStride™, SureStride™, and FreeStride™ products each have their own intended use. Matching the right leash with the right connection point gives you the safest, smoothest experience.

Fit, Sizing & Product Details

How do I choose the right size collar or harness?

Measure your dog where the collar or harness naturally sits, then compare that measurement to the sizing guide on the product page. If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort and adjustability.

Do your products adjust?

Yes. Most u.Do: collars, harnesses, belts, and leash systems include adjustable features so you can create a more secure, comfortable fit for both you and your dog.

Are u.Do: systems only for running?

No. PowerStride™ is especially designed for running and training-focused movement, but many u.Do: products can also be used for walking, hiking, and everyday adventures. Choose the system that best matches your pace, control needs, and your dog’s behavior.

Can I use u.Do: products with more than one dog?

Some products are better suited for multi-dog use than others. For example, certain FreeStride™ hands-free leash options may allow an optional second leash. Always check the product description and use only as directed.

Safety & Use

Are u.Do: leash systems designed to prevent tangling?

u.Do: systems are designed to support safer, more confident movement by helping create a more predictable connection between you and your dog. No leash can eliminate every tangle or trip risk, so always pay attention to your dog, your surroundings, and the product’s intended use.

Should my dog be trained before using a fixed-distance leash system?

Basic leash manners are strongly recommended. A fixed-distance system can support better movement together, but it is not a substitute for training. Start slow, practice in a low-distraction area, and build confidence before running or moving in busy spaces.

Can children use u.Do: leash systems?

u.Do: products should be used by someone able to safely control the dog. Children should only use leash systems with adult supervision and with dogs they can confidently manage.

Can I use these products in the car?

Only products specifically described as car safety or travel products should be used in a vehicle. Standard leashes, collars, and harnesses are not crash-tested vehicle restraint systems unless clearly stated.

Orders, Shipping & Returns

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within the United States only.

Do you offer free shipping?

Free shipping may be available on qualifying orders. Please review the current shipping information at checkout, where available rates and thresholds will be shown before you place your order.

What is your return policy?

We want you and your dog to love your gear. If something is not right, please review our Returns & Exchanges page for current eligibility, timing, and instructions.

Can I exchange for a different size?

In many cases, yes. If the item is eligible and in returnable condition, we can help with an exchange. Please check the Returns & Exchanges page for details before sending anything back.

Guarantee, Repairs & Care

Do u.Do: products come with a guarantee?

We stand behind the quality of our products. Our guarantee covers failures related to materials or workmanship. Normal wear and tear, misuse, chewing, accidents, or improper use are not covered.

Can damaged components be repaired?

In some cases, fee-based component repairs or replacements may be available. Contact us with your product details and photos so we can review the best next step.

How should I clean my u.Do: gear?

Wipe down gear after use and allow it to air dry fully before storing. For deeper cleaning, hand wash gently with mild soap and cool water. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, and high heat.

How often should I inspect my leash, collar, or harness?

Check your gear regularly for wear, fraying, loose stitching, damaged buckles, or weakened connection points. If something looks compromised, stop using it until it can be repaired or replaced.

About Us

We’re the Carter family—Jeff, Pat, and our daughter Lacey—and we created a unique dog leash to solve a problem that felt all too familiar: how to run, walk, or move freely with our dogs, not in spite of them.

We design for real movement—so you and your dog can move better, together.

Our Journey

Our journey began in 2020, born from years of personal frustration trying to combine our love for exercise with our love for dogs. Whether it was dodging poles and traffic on neighborhood runs, battling leash tangles, or struggling to establish a rhythm between human and canine, we knew there had to be a better way.

A Joyful Discovery

Lacey, a five-sport letterman and competitive triathlete, needed more from a leash than frustration and tug-of-war. Pali, her quirky and lovable Golden Retriever, had other priorities: food and naps. Their first walk with our prototype harness didn’t go so well (Pali laid down and refused to move), but the second time? Pali took off—with direction, confidence, and joy. Something clicked.

That’s when we knew we were on to something.

A New Movement

Today, unFURled dog outfitters is more than a single product. It’s a growing line of gear designed for real people and real dogs who move together—runners, walkers, and more in the future. Our mission is simple: create safe, tangle-free dog gear that supports movement, strengthens bonds, and brings joy to every shared outing.

If your story sounds anything like ours, you’ve found the right place. We’re building this for you—and your dog.

  • Jeff Carter, Founder and Chief Pack Innovator

I’ve loved dogs my entire life—and if I’m being honest, I’ve probably overfed every one of them just trying to make them happy.
I’ve also never been great at following rules, which might make me the perfect “Chief Pack Innovator.”
Now I’m on a mission to find better, more thoughtful ways to love our dogs—through movement, connection, and a little creativity.
Join us as we explore new ways to exercise, bond, and make the world a better place… one happy dog at a time.
  • Pat Carter, Founder and Chief Pack Herder

I’ll admit it—running with a dog was not my thing. Between tripping over the leash and getting yanked off the trail, it felt more like survival than exercise.
Honestly, it’s probably why I became “the cat person” in the family. (If cats went for runs, I’d be all in.)
So when Jeff said he had an idea to fix my “dog dragging” problem, I was skeptical… but curious. Turns out—he was onto something.
He built products that actually give you control, even when your dog thinks it’s in charge. And for the first time, running or walking together felt less like chaos and more like fun.
  • Lacey Carter, Founder and Chief Pack Whisperer

I've always loved being active-- training for triathlons, getting outside, and challenging myself. Naturally, I wanted my dog to be a part of it. But... it didn't exactly go as planned.
Between pacing, pulling, and constantly adjusting, it was more frustrating than freeing. I wanted it to feel natural-- to move together, not work against each other. That's what pulled me into u.Do:.
Pali and I have been closely involved in testing and giving feedback on the products - what works, what doesn't, and what could be better.
Because for me, the gear has to fit seamlessly into my life and my routine... with Pali a part of everything I do (obviously)!
  • Stephanie Woeste, Chief of Pack Engagement

I’m the human behind the howl—leading strategy, storytelling, and brand growth to keep our pack wagging.
Before u.Do:, I worked closely with Jeff and Pat to help dental professionals rethink workflow, safety, and performance through hands-on education and CE seminars.
We’ve brought that experience in design, movement, and problem-solving to create better dog gear—because we love our dogs, and we love building things that actually work.
When I’m not working, I’m with Lakeman, my Goldendoodle co-pilot and constant reminder that the best ideas usually start with a leash in hand.
  • Pali Carter, Chief of Pack Inspiration

I get a lot of attention for being a little quirky—and doing exactly what I want.
Lacey and my veterinarian have me on this “strict diet,” which feels completely unnecessary. I mean… look at me. I look fantastic.
But here’s a little tip for my fellow dogs—as Chief of Pack Inspiration: Give these products a chance.
Put in a solid effort, act just exhausted enough at the end of your outing… and trust me—the extra snacks will follow. Works every time.
  • Lakeman Woeste, Packtivities Director

I bounded into this pack as a pandemic puppy in 2020… and let’s be honest, I’ve had Mom wrapped around my paw ever since.

I’m a Goldendoodle with a calm, confident vibe—always ready to bring a little energy to the moment. Road trip? I’m in. I take my responsibilities very seriously.
I oversee packtivities, which includes comfort control and—most importantly—snack security. Someone has to do it.
I’m happiest spending time with my people—whether we’re out on a walk, testing something new, or just hanging out. Bonus points if there’s a treat involved… purely for quality assurance purposes, of course.
